One Year Later

I can't believe that today marks my blog's one year anniversary. It seems like just yesterday that I was sitting in my living room and decided to create this website that has become so meaningful to me. I've met so many great people and reviewed loads of products over the past 12 months and it feels like I've been blogging forever! I couldn't be any more proud of this little blog of mine. I know that I haven't posted every day over the past year but I am going to definitely try my best to post regularly in 2014. Thank you so much to everyone who has made this journey possible for me by reading this little part of my internet self. I have so many plans for 2014 and I hope that you all will stay tuned for what happens next!

Blogmas Day 24: The Christmas Eve Face

Merry Christmas Eve everyone! I'm leaving for a dinner with my family soon so I'll make this really quick. I wanted to share with you guys the look I'll be sporting tonight on my face. I made sure that all of these products were long lasting as I'll be out all night and I won't be home until the morning. I started with the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation in Sand Beige for a flawless base. I touched up any blemishes with the Maybelline 24 Hour Super Stay Concealer in Cream. To set my base I used my infamous Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Transluscent. For the eyes, I started with my holy grail Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad To the Bronze. I then used the Bobbi Brown Rich Chocolate Eye Palette in the shade Champagne Truffle for a bit of shimmer all over the lid, following up with Frappe in the crease. I took the shade Stone in the outer corner for a bit of smoke and Rich Chocolate as a liner on my upper lashline. On the lower lashline I added Cocoa for a bit of definition. I added my Covergirl Clump Crusher in Blackest Black on my lashes. On the cheeks I applied my Milani Baked Blush in Rose D'Oro, which adds a gorgeous glow. For highlight I tapped a bit of my Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre in Reverie for a touch of sparkle. Lastly on the lips, I rubbed a MAC Lipstick in MAC Red all over my lips.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas Eve and I'll be back tomorrow for the last day of Blogmas!

Blogmas Day 23: Sparkle & Glow

While I was shopping at Target the other day (when do I not shop at Target? That's the real question!) I was looking through the Milani stand. I've heard so many amazing reviews of their baked blushes so I knew I had to pick one up! This shade is in Rose D'Oro, which I mentioned here in my "Birthday Face" post. Milani's blushes are incredibly pigmented and shimmery. Oh boy, they have huge sparkles in them that catch the light. I use this as both a blusher and highlighter as the glitter is packed so densely. The shade is gorgeous and looks amazing with red lipstick! It looks as if I've been out into the (nonexistent) cold winter weather and I've caught a chill from the wind. It's a bit pricey for a drugstore brand, weighing in at $9. Overall, the texture is incredibly smooth and it looks beautiful on more tanned skin. It's definitely a winner in my blush book and I highly recommend it for the holiday season!

PS: These pictures were shot with my new Canon Rebel T3i (thanks mom and dad!) and I'm really grateful and excited to own my first DSLR! A full-length review of the camera will come soon...

Blogmas Day 22: The Birthday Face

This birthday was an interesting one for me. I guess because I am getting older, I don't feel as though my birthday is a huge day anymore. When I was younger, I would shout from the rooftops that today was my day. Today I just didn't feel that giddy, but overall, I had a really great day. I'm learning that it's not so much about me anymore but that spending time with family and friends is the most important thing! Anyway, I wanted to share my birthday makeup with you guys!

Surprisingly, I used pretty much all drugstore products for my 'birthday face'. I started off with my new Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous foundation in 845. I'm really loving this foundation and I predict that a full review will be coming up soon! I then concealed any spots or redness with the Maybelline Super Stay concealer, which is just great and easy to blend. I set my base with the Airspun Loose Face Powder in the shade Transluscent. This powder was an amazing recommendation from Tati, so I knew I just had to try it out! I highlighted my browbone and cheekbones with the Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeshadow Stick in Bulletproof Beige for a soft sheen. For cheeks, I added a touch of the Milani Baked Blush in Rose D'Oro, which is the most gorgeous color for winter!

I primed my eyes with my oh-so-loved Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze (not pictured above and I don't know why!) for a shimmery base. On top of that, I added my L'Oreal Infallible Eye Shadow in Bronzed Taupe and a touch of Bobbi Brown's Chocolate Brown in the crease and under the eyes. For subtle liner, I made an extremely thin line on my upper lashline with the Maybelline Master Smoky Pencil in Scorching Brown. I topped it all off with Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara (also not pictured above!), which is my absolute favorite mascara of all time. I completed my look with the Maybelline Color Elixir in the shade Caramel Infused for a soft, natural lip.

I'm very grateful for such an amazing birthday filled with good food, laughs, and family. Here's to a great year!

Blogmas Day 21: OPI's The Next CEO

Here's a secret: I absolutely hate painting my nails. If there's one beauty routine that I despise, it's nail painting. It might be utter lack of nails (I tend to pick at them) or the fact that I can't paint them to save my life. I usually scroll past any blog posts or pictures of nail art but when this season rolled around, I got quite interested in the different polish colors. I've been fancying many of the polishes in the different Christmas collections and I was especially fond of gold nails. When I saw the Nicole by OPI polish in The Next CEO, I knew I had to have it. Application was a cinch and the polish dried quickly when dunked in a bath of ice water. The iridescence of the polish changes color in different lighting, which makes it look both silver and gold at times. I know that the photo above is no $60 paint job, but I think it looks stunning on the nails. I will definitely be reapplying as the color is gorgeous for the holidays! Birthday and Christmas nails are now sorted.

Blogmas Day 20: Family Christmas Traditions

Oh boy 13 year old me and sister!

Family traditions are a really important part of the Christmas time to my family. For the past few years we've kept a steady schedule of places to be a people to see, so to speak. As a recommendation from my mother, (thanks mom) I'll be sharing some of the traditions my family upkeep from Christmas Eve to the day. I'll also throw in a few rather unattractive pictures of my sister and I over the years as a bonus! I really hope you guys enjoy this!

On Christmas Eve my family usually meets up with my mom's sister, brother in law, and nephews at Tanaka of Tokyo for a late dinner. It's always fun to spend time with my mom's side of the family as we don't get to see them as often as we'd like. After dinner, present exchanges and goodbyes, my family heads over to church where we go to the 11 o clock service. It's nice to go to the late service as everyone is there until 12:30 on Christmas day!

Hello no makeup!

On Christmas day, I'm usually the first to wake up as I'm so excited to open presents! Waiting for my parents to get ready is always the hard part. My family starts by opening our stockings and finding the bits inside. My dad will usually take a break from opening presents to make us a big breakfast of eggs, bacon, and rice. He's such a good bloke sometimes! After the presents are opened (I usually finish opening mines first because I go through them so quickly!) we sit and eat our breakfast together until we're all stuffed. Christmas music is usually playing in the house and the wonderful smell of bacon lingers in the air for the next hour. We spend our day relaxing and watching Christmas specials or football until it's time for dinner. For the past couple of years, we've gone to eat dinner at the country club we're members of. Dinner there is always delicious and we have such a great time together! After our long day of festive gatherings and present opening, we head to bed happy and full.

I really hope you enjoyed this post and I would love to know what some of your family traditions are!

Blogmas Day 19: The Best Lipstick That No One's Using

Nowadays lipsticks are becoming more popular and great formulas can be found in both the drugstore and the department store. I must admit that I usually stick to the same brands for lipsticks: Revlon, MAC, and Clinique just to name a few. Despite that fact, I recently took a leap of faith when I purchased a lipstick from Melaleuca; the safe-for-home wellness company.

The shade I chose is 'Rosewood', which is very appropriate considering my obsession with the tv show Pretty Little Liars. The lipstick is very moisturizing, yet it lasts a good 5 hours while fading into a gorgeous "just bitten" stain. The sheen makes it very wearable for the daytime. I've been pairing it with my favorite Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation for a simple base and the Revlon Lash Potion Mascara. To go out on a limb, I have to say that this is one of, if not the best lipstick formula I've ever worn. It's extremely comfortable on the lips and is low maintenance. I highly recommend purchasing this lipstick on the Melaleuca website!

Blogmas Day 18: The Christmas Playlist

One of the most important parts of Christmas to me is a great playlist. The sound of bells and a recurring snare drum really brings the holiday spirit together. These songs have been replaying on my playlist for the past couple of months so I wanted to share it with you! What are some of your favorite Christmas songs?

The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole

Snow by Sleeping at Last

Fairytale of New York by The Pogues

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Michael Buble

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by Michael Buble

The Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy by Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow! by Harry Connick Jr.

Winter Wonderland by Duke Ellington

Baby it's Cold Outside by Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Jordan

Blogmas Day 17: What's in my Travel Makeup Bag?

Hi everyone! Today's post is pretty exciting for me as I always like to plan ahead when traveling. I'm going to be traveling to Pasadena to perform in the annual Rose Bowl parade, which is extremely exciting for me! I've put together some of the beauty bits I will be taking with me to Pasadena so I thought that I would share them with all of you!

For the base, I'm bringing my beloved Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua for the day and Laura Mercier Silk Creme for more coverage. To conceal any blemishes or redness, I'm toting along my Maybelline 24 Hr Concealer, which lasts all day long without caking up. I'll be setting all of that with my Rimmel Stay Matte or the beautiful limited edition Chanel Poudre Universelle from last year's holiday collection for a bit of a glow. With the base sorted, I'll be applying my favorite Chanel Joues Contraste in the shade Rose Petale for a flushed cheek look.

On to my favorite part; the eyes. I'll be taking two of my all time favorite palettes, which are the Bobbi Brown Rich Chocolate Eye Palette and the Stila In the Light Palette for unlimited neutral looks. As a primer for everyday, I have my long lasting Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze. On top of that for easy eye days, I'll have my rich, pigmented L'Oreal Infallible Shadow in Bronzed Taupe. To top it all off, I have the Revlon Lash Potion for big, bold lashes that don't clump.

Last but not least, I have a multitude of holiday lip products that I'll be keeping in my purse. For a simple lip, I have the Maybelline Color Elixir in Caramel Infused along with the Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie. When I want an easy tinted lip balm, I'll have my new Maybelline Baby Lips Dr. Rescue. For a fun, bold lip I have many different options. An easy everyday red lip is effortless when using the Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede lipstick in Finale. Another red option is my holy grail MAC Red lipstick that looks gorgeous for nights out. Lastly, I have my new favorite, which I didn't think I would like at first. The Butter London Lippy in the shade Snog is a gorgeous fuchsia that looks great against my skin tone.
