Rhythms Of Grace

Hi all! I'm so sorry for not posting in a while. I've been so busy for the past couple of weeks preparing for my trip to the inauguration in Washington DC! I hope you all have had a good January so far, I can't believe it's nearly over!

I want to make a quick post about a rediscovered favorite song of mine! The song is called "Rhythms of Grace" by Hillsong United. It was on their Aftermath album back in 2011. I was fortunate enough to be able to go to the Hillsong Conference in Sydney, Australia back in July and I got to hear this song firsthand during worship. Hillsong is such an anointed church with incredible Senior Pastors (Brian and Bobbie Houston) as well as fantastic worship leaders. The song has brought me back to the heart of God in this past couple of weeks. I hope it speaks to you as much as it has to me!

My life is a light for Your cause
My will laid aside for Your call
And reserved are the depths of my heart
Only for You

I'm caught in the rhythms of grace
They overcome all of my ways
Realigning each step everyday
To live for Your glory

There's none beside You God
There's none beside You God

You're there in the dark of the night
While holding the sun and it's light
Through the triumph and trials alike
There's no-one beside You

Your voice called the stars by their name
'Cause You whispered them all to their place
To testify to Your wonder and praise
Both now and forever

There's none beside You God
There's none beside You God
I love my life to shine Your light
'Cause there's none beside You God

No eye has seen
No ear has heard
The depths of Your love, Lord
No mind can fathom
The love You deserve
How great You are

Blessing Bags

How many times have you seen a homeless person holding up a "Please Help" sign? Did you give them money or food? Did you just walk past them? It's easy to think that all homeless people will only use money to buy alcohol or drugs, but most of the time, that's not the case.

Currently, around 3.5 million people are homeless in America. Isn't that a shock to think that we as the richest nation in the world, can't even take care of ourselves and our own people? Yes, it may be true that the homeless man you gave money to will spend it on drugs, or the homeless woman will use it to buy her dose of liquor, but that's not our place to judge and use that fact to ignore those who live on the streets.

In Matthew 25:34-40, Jesus said, "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me a drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed Me, I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you visited Me, I was in prison and you came to Me.' Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? And when did we see You a stranger and welcome You, or naked and clothe You? And when did we see You sick or in prison and visit you?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did to one of the least of these My brothers, you did it to Me."

Jesus called us to care for His sons and daughters because we are told to "Love your neighbor as yourself." We need to start following God's Word and get out into the world, loving on one another just as Jesus loves us.

I stumbled across this picture on Pinterest and I thought that the blog post that went along with it was incredibly inspiring. A Blessing Bag is a Ziplock bag filled with all kinds of essentials such as food, toothbrush/toothpaste, water, etc. A Blessing Bag is easy to make and can change the life of a homeless man or woman.

What You'll Need:
-Ziplock bag (any size, but a Gallon size works best)
-Water bottle or juice pouch
-Granola bars
-Crackers or Gold fish
-Breathmints or Mint gum
-Deodorant
-Mouthwash
-Tootbrush/Toothpaste
-Comb
-Quarters for collect calls or to buy small food items
-Fast food gift card (such as: McDonalds, Jack in the Box)
Optional:
-Small Bible
-Encouragement card
-Paper with important phone numbers (such as: soup kitchen, nearby homeless shelter)

Blessing Bags truly are life changers and they can save a life. We need to start getting out into our community and in the world to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Spend a little money to bless someone else and see how good you'll feel after you hand out the Blessing Bags.

Winter Travel Tips!

Even though the holiday season has ended, many of us are still traveling to visit family, friends, or just for a vacation. Most of the states on the mainland are extremely frigid in January, so I wanted to share some "cold weather tips" with all of you travelers!

Let's start off with the basics:

Suitcase- A monogrammed or brightly colored suitcase is the best way to easily find your luggage in the baggage claim. Nowadays, many people own black, brown, or neutral colored suitcases, which makes it harder to find when every case looks the same. LL Bean has very well made, sturdy collections of suitcases and duffel bags for all your travel needs. Their collections can be found and purchased here. If you are willing to really splurge on a high end collection, Louis Vuitton's luggage is known all over the world with very good reviews. The information for their collections are found here.

Carry On- A good carry on bag can become a life saver if you discover that your suitcase is over packed. Although many different brands sell carry on bags, I would recommend investing in a sturdy and chic diaper bag. I know, that sounds really crazy, especially if you are young and you have no children. Rest assured, diaper bags can be the best choice for a large carry on. They can often fit a set of clothes, a water bottle, snacks, makeup, laptops/iPads, and many others. Nordstrom has many well made and stylish carry ons on their website.

Coat- Visiting a cold climate area can be a culture shock if you live in a hot or humid state. A thick and heavy coat will keep you warm if you are not used to the cold weather. A puffy down coat such as this one is good because it has a hood as well as a belt to cinch the waist. Puffier coats take up a lot of room in a suitcase, so it would be best to either pack it in your carry on tote or to wear it on the plane. Your body will thank you for it when you are freezing and needing a hot cup of coffee to stay warm. Bigger coats can also serve as a pillow or a blanket on the plane, when you don't necessarily want to use the dirty or unwashed blankets that the airlines provide.

Boots- Tall, lined boots will definitely keep your feet warm in the blistering cold. Along with the boots, you should include some thermal or fuzzy socks to serve as a type of foot warmer. If you want to invest in a good pair of heavy duty boots, they are available at Nordstrom or LL Bean. Otherwise, many different types of boots can be found at Ross or TJ. Maxx for a much cheaper price. Boots with zippers will be very helpful in the TSA line at the airport because of they are easy and quick to take on and off. It would be best to wear your heaviest boots on the plane when your feet get cold because it also relieves your suitcase of weight.

Layers- Layering is key on a winter trip. Thin, layered, long sleeve shirts can keep you warm underneath heavy sweaters and coats. I've found that Banana Republic and Gap have some of the best tops for layering. Forever 21 has cheaper alternatives that may not be as warm, but they are good to wear underneath other tops. I really like having a plain chambray denim shirt to layer underneath tops and sweaters. Pinterest and other blogs have given me many ideas on how to wear a chambray shirt, but I know that they are definitely a staple piece to have as a layering top.

Scarves- Scarves are possibly the greatest accessory ever invented, in my opinion! They can add a statement to an understated outfit, or they can just blend in to the rest of the clothes. Scarves come in all different shapes, sizes, and colors, so there will definitely be a scarf that goes with your individual personality! I love the different ways to wear scarves, since they are so accessible and fun. A good soft scarf is good to have on a plane because like a coat, they can serve as a blanket or a pillow to shield yourself from the cold air.

So that's it everyone! I hope that these travel tips will help you on any upcoming trips. Don't forget to wear sunscreen on the airplane, since you are closer to the sun, and to always take off your makeup and use a good skincare routine! Have fun!

Spring 2013 Fashion Trends

Most of us have heard of the different Fashion Weeks held all over the world. Although most of the shows are invitation-only, magazines such as Harper's Bazaar, Glamour, and Elle have given us normal folks a ticket into the many different trends and styles for the upcoming season.

The main Fashion Weeks are:
*London Fashion Week
*Paris Fashion Week
*Milan Fashion Week
*New York Fashion Week

The different shows are held in the four main fashion capitals in the world, however, there are other fashion weeks that aren't as popular. The first Fashion Week was in 1943 in New York City. The main purpose of the fashion shows was to divert attention from French fashion during the second World War. The New York Fashion Week was a turning point because most of the fashion designers in America at the time had drawn their inspiration from French designers.

There are many different trends displayed at the different Fashion Weeks, showing the new styles and trends for the upcoming seasons.

Some of the newest trends for Spring 2013 are:

Do You Hear The People Sing?

I have loved Les Miserables since the first time I saw the play 4 years ago. The songs and the whole plot were incredible and inspiring. My favorite part of the play was the love triangle between Eponine, Marius, and Cosette. Eponine's love for Marius captivated my heart from the first time I witnessed it! Les Miserables overall is a wonderful play and an even better movie! The star-filled cast and the newcomers were all excellent choices for the characters.

Here are some of my favorite songs in the play (25th anniversary edition)

Grown-Up Tutus

We all wore fluffy, colorful tutus when we were little girls. Dreaming of being princesses, wearing a pink tutu and a plastic tiara made it seem like we were.

Now that we are all grown up, wearing a tutu seems childish and tacky. Surprisingly, a fluffy tulle skirt has been on my fashion wish list. Bloggers and celebrities alike have been seen sporting the "grown-up tutus". Not very long ago, Polyvore (a fashion blog and shop) posted a collage of pictures of tulle skirts. The cream colored skirt below can be bought here.
