The Dynamic Nail Duo

As the days of the month roll by, the numbers of nail polish in my collection continue to grow. There are two polishes specifically that have made a huge impact in the lasting power and overall formulation of my nail color. When I first started painting my nubby nails I ignored any need for a base coat. I had a preconceived thought that base coats are unnecessary and time consuming. Boy, was I wrong. The use of a base coat has made my nail varnish of the moment glide on easily and smoothly. The one I'm currently using is the Revlon Colorstay Gel-Smooth Base Coat ($7), which is a slightly tacky coat that is amazing. The brush head is wide and applies the product very easily. After applying base coat and color, I like to use the NYC In A Minute Quick Dry ($4) in Grand Central Station, which is a bog-standard clear top coat. The top coat also has a great brush that makes application a cinch. Using the two polishes together makes any decent varnish last up to a week with no chips or smudges. Not bad for drugstore nail products...

  1. Base coats are the best! Plus that protect the nail, and I agree it helps with application and stay power!
