The Lip Product Addict

As you all probably know by now, lip products are one of, if not my favorite beauty products to purchase. The vast variety of colors, textures, and finishes always leaves me handing my money over to the Sephora cashier willingly! When I saw Amelia and Estêe doing the Lip Product Addict TAG whilst in Dallas, I immediately wanted to complete the TAG as well. The questions are so fun and I loved picking out the different lip products I would include in here!

1. Favorite balm/treatment?

I love the Bite Beauty BB For Lips in Tawny because it adds intense moisture to my lips while also injecting them with a hint of color.

2. Best eye-catching red?

The Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Mightiest Maraschino was featured in one of Lisa Eldridge's videos a few years ago and I've been hooked on the color ever since. It instantly brightens up the face and lasts all day!

3. Best luxury?

I am absolutely in love with the Burberry Lip Mist in Oxblood. The formula is so creamy and glides on the lips and the color is amazing.

4. Best drugstore?

In 2012, the Revlon Lip Butter in Wild Watermelon was the only lip color I would wear. Even though it's bright red, it's incredibly wearable and is so moisturizing!

5. Best MAC lipstick?

I've gradually become a huge fan of the MAC lipstick formulations and my favorite is the MAC Lustre Lipstick in Plumful. The pink toned plum shade is really easy to wear on a day to day basis and looks especially lovely during the fall!

6. Best gloss?

I adore the Lancôme Lip Lover in Rose Contre-Temps for everyday! The gloss isn't sticky or gloopy and it wears nicely throughout the day.

7. Most disappointing?

After hearing so much hype surrounding the Maybelline Color Elixirs, I was expecting the glosses to be smooth and creamy, but I was left with a really streaky finish and an overall thick mess.

8. Something extra?

I couldn't do this TAG without including my favorite lip product of all time- the Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Plum Jam! This color stick is a balm/gloss hybrid that has incredibly pigmentation and moisturization!

How Much Is My Face Worth?

I recently saw this type of post floating around the interweb where bloggers would state how much their faces cost them. I thought this was a genius idea as I've never really added up the amount of money I actually spend on my makeup products (spoiler alert: it's not pretty). After recently posting this photo above in my new hair chop post, I took all of the makeup used and added up the total amount. I used my holy grail Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, Chanel Joues Contraste Blush, Real Techniques Buffing Brush, Anastasia Brow Wiz, Shu Uemura S Curler, Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara, NARS NARSissist Eye Palette, Lancôme Lip Lover, and Chloé Perfume Rollerball to tie the look together. After adding up all of the product costs, I was absolutely astounded to see that my "face" is worth $325 USD. Of course, I've accumulated all of these products over the years, but the total price amazes me as I still go shopping for makeup despite my overflowing countertop of beauty products. Now I know why my wallet is always empty...

The Sperry Top Sider Wishlist

My dad has always loved the Sperry Top-Sider Boat Shoes and I never really understood why. Of course, they matched his Brook's Brothers and Polo loving personality in which he paired them with both jeans and polos and khaki pants and Reyn Spooner shirts. The classic boat shoe was invented in 1935 when Paul Sperry, an avid sailor and inventor decided to create a non-slip shoe. The shoes are very preppy and classic but they weren't "my style" until I recently visited their website and saw all of their amazing styles! I found a handful of the classic shoes that I could pair with my mostly all black wardrobe to incorporate a bit of prep in my style! These shoes are definitely on my wishlist for the summer and just in case I ever step on a boat (especially since aforementioned dad recently started sailing lessons)!

The Recipe For Long Lasting Makeup

As a makeup loving gal with problems with "makeup meltdown" aka extremely short lived beauty looks, I'm always on the hunt for perfectly long lasting beauty products. I've gone through handfuls of foundations and powders claiming all day wear and oily control properties that leave me with a greasy face mid day (which is always frustrating!). Because of this harrowing problem that haunts me on the regular, I was ecstatic to find the perfect pairing of prep and finish products for my makeup routine! The products in question are the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer and the Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray. Primer and setting spray are products that I never used to be bothered with because they always seemed like unnecessary steps, which couldn't be further from the truth! The primer leaves my face matte without looking flat (oh ho ho, see what I did there?) and the setting spray ensures that my makeup literally lasts all day long. The pairing of these two similarly packaged products equals one very happy Noelle with an artfully applied "face" that never succumbs to makeup meltdown anymore!

Memorial Day

What a lovely Memorial Day! I spent the entire day hanging out with my family at breakfast at Likelike and "linner" at my house. We chowed down on the usual All American foods such as hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans, and salad. The day was really bright and sunny, so we decided to eat outside on the deck with a view of the clear blue sky. Of course, my pets were involved in our memorial feast and they had a few bites of human food as well!

Thank you, to all of the servicemen and women that sacrifice your lives everyday on the battlefield. Let's all take some time to always remember the people that allow us Americans to be free. You truly are heroes.

The Summertime Hair Change

I'm not one to get regular trims but I do like to get a big hair chop in the beginning of the summer. I usually cut a big chunk of my mop to lessen the weight on my shoulders and to ease the summertime heat. This past hairdresser visit I decided to go for a Victoria Beckham-esque asymmetrical lob where the front parts of my hair are longer than the back. I think this hairstyle is really cute for the summer and I love how it looks wavy, straight, and curly! It's incredibly easy to style now that a good 5 inches are gone and I couldn't be happier with the outcome!

How To Choose The Right Foundation Shade

Source: Chelsea Crockett

Nearly every adult woman wears makeup on a day to day basis and a very common error of beauty is wearing the wrong foundation shade. Many women state that matching foundation to the hand or arm is the best way to do it, but that's completely wrong. The method to the madness that is foundation matching is to place three shades on the neck and choose which one blends into the skin. If a foundation looks too ruddy, it's normally too pink and if it looks extremely golden, then it's too warm toned. There are many websites that match women to their perfect shade based upon their previously used shades such as Findation and Temptalia's Foundation Matrix. Another helpful shade matcher is the Color IQ tester at Sephora. The "kiosk" takes three pictures of the woman's forehead, neck, and face and gives her the absolute perfect match for her skintone. Make sure you're always wearing the right foundation shade and match it accurately using these tips!

An Ode To The Perfect Jeans

Dear J Brand 811 Mid-Rise Jean in Siren, you are the epitome of the perfect denim jean. You're so incredibly soft and durable and I'll never be able to put you down! I love your mid-rise, which flatters my stomach area and keeps everything sucked in. Your color is the perfect mix of dark and light denim and the length is great for petite gals like me. I love that I can wear you with any top and that with a pair of heels, you're ready to rock on a night out. I can't get enough of you and (if I stay the same size forever) I'll wear you until I'm 90. Thank you for being you, 811. You're the best.

Benefit They're Real Push Up Liner

I know, I know, it's way past my usual posting time. I had an incredibly busy day yesterday so I wasn't able to prepare a post, but I just couldn't bring myself to skip a day of blogging! (such dedication). I hope this writing is a bonus as it's very late, but sometimes it's more fun to publish at unexpected times! When I heard about the future launch of the Benefit They're Real! Push-Up Liner, I was ecstatic! The namesake mascara shimmied its way into the hearts of makeup lovers everywhere and I have no doubt that this gel liner will do the same. Benefit is claiming that the "lash hugging gel liner pen" won't smudge, budge, or dry out and the innovative soft AccuFlex Tip will hug your lashline from corner to corner. The directions state that users should twist the pen to activate the gel liner and rest the tip on the base of the lashes. Although I'm not a fan of liner (especially not black), this new formulation sounds so fun and easy to use! I can't wait to get my hands on this on June 27th!

Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm

Although I used to sport a red lip daily in the past, I've steered away from the bold lip color and have opted for pink lipsticks and glosses instead. I've gotten good use out of my tinted balms, cremesheen lipsticks, and lightweight lip glosses to tie in the whole 'no makeup makeup' look I've gone for recently. As if on a whim, I picked up the Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm in the shade Provocateur, which is an amazing red shade. I tend to go for the deep, matte reds but I was quickly drawn to the sheeny finish of the lacquer balm. The hint of shine in the tomato red shade adds a freshness to a rather boring red lip. I've really been enjoying the formulation of the balm as it's blendable but it doesn't slip and slide around the lips. While eating and drinking, I get a good 3-4 hours of wear time out of the lacquer balm and I know that the lippy will be perfect for the summer time!

White and Blue

Summer time is almost upon us and although the sun is out and about, I'm still sporting my regular jeans and jacket ensemble. The outfit I went for on Sunday involved my favorite pair of jeans and a crisp, white blazer that was a recent purchase. I started off with my J Brand 811 Mid Rise Skinny Jean in Siren as a blank canvas and then I paired it with this ASTR Royal Blue Top for a hint of color. It was a bit chilly that morning so I threw on my new H&M Cinched Waist Blazer that's the perfect white jacket for the summer time. This outfit keeps me warm when the days are a bit cold but it's lightweight enough to wear during hot days as well. I think the outfit is really classic and stylish at the same time and I'll definitely be wearing it throughout the summer evenings!

A Summery Drugstore Haul

I recently went to Target to browse the makeup section as per usual. The newly renovated aisles are really organized and the lighting is incredibly bright! Because I had a gift card I went a little overboard for one trip and decided to purchase the 5 items pictured above.

I hadn't heard of any reviews on the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer ($6) before I picked it up, but the packaging completely lured me in. It's very reminiscent of the UD makeup setting spray that I love so much but in a thick, priming form. The primer is not silicone-y at all which I love and it makes my makeup last so long! The L'Oreal True Match Foundation ($9) in W3 has been on my list for a while, as I've seen Amelia rave about the "Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk dupe". I'm really enjoying using the foundation but I'm not quite sure how I feel about it yet. It has amazing coverage like Luminous Silk but it also feels a bit heavy on the skin. I will definitely be reporting back with my final thoughts on whether it's a dupe or not! Sticking to face products, I picked up the Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder ($9) in 40 Nude because I've heard amazing things about the new powder! It gives my skin a really silky feeling and keeps me matte for hours. It's a definite winner so far. I wanted to pick up a new bold lip color for the summer time and was immediately drawn to the Revlon Colourburst Lacquer Balm ($8) in Provocateur, which is a bold, pinky red. Although it's called "lacquer balm", it's not incredibly shiny as I expected. It has gorgeous pigmentation and lasts quite a while on the lips without fading. The formula of the balm sticks is amazing and I will be picking up more shades for the summer! Last but not least is a nail polish that I did a post on yesterday. The Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Varnish ($5) in Skylight is a beautiful teal/robin's egg blue that is absolutely perfect for the warmer months!

The drugstore is full of brand new collections and beauty products for the summer time and I highly recommend checking out your local store for more options!

Tiffany Blue Nails

Studies have shown that 100% of women flip at the sight of a Tiffany & Co. blue box (not really kidding). The signature teal/robin's egg blue is the epitome of chic and has women shaking in awe and excitement. I have personally received one of the classic blue boxes with a ring inside from my lovely father (thanks dad!) and I completely understand the hype surrounding the company and its jewelry. When I found the Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Varnish in Skylight, I was immediately drawn to the shade that's reminiscent of a Tiffany blue box. The muted pastel shade looks gorgeous against a tan so it'll be perfect for the summer time. I applied 2 shades of the polish to create a full coverage nail and it applied so beautifully. For only $4 at the drugstore, it's a complete bargain as a fully opaque nail polish. I will definitely be picking up more of the Covergirl polishes as they have an amazing formulation and beautiful shades!

A Brilliant Drugstore Primer

I've never been one for face primers as the effective ones are usually expensive and don't do much for the face makeup. However, I went to Target the other day and spotted the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer, which immediately caught my attention. I've been using the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder for years to keep my face shine free and I was hoping that this primer would do the same. The bottle is really clean and is filled to the brim with the white priming fluid that turns clear. I applied this on my T-zone and was shocked to see my pores disappear upon contact with my foundation! I have a handful of really large pores around my nose area and when I put my foundation over the primer, those pores were seemingly gone. After a 10 hour long day, my face makeup looked exactly the same as it did when I applied it. I blotted once throughout the day, but that was it. I didn't have to keep applying powder to keep my face matte, which in turn usually makes it look cakey. This prime really kept my makeup looking the same all day long, which isn't a statement I often make about a makeup product. I give the Stay Matte Primer a 10 out of 10 hands down!

The Hair Care Reverse

We all know the drill: shampoo, conditioner, body wash (usually in that order). I've always completed my shower routine in that fashion until I read about the shampoo/conditioner switch. Many beauty reporters have written about applying hair conditioner to the mid lengths of your strands and then applying shampoo right after. It seems crazy to condition and then wash the roots, but when you think about it, it makes a lot of sense! Because conditioner can be heavy on the strands, it seems right to apply that and then deep clean with shampoo after. I'm not sure if this really is good for your hair but after washing this way for a week, I've noticed that my hair has more volume and is incredibly silky and shiny. I want to know if this process works for you as great as it has for me!

The Overall Wishlist

Overall Wishlist

Current Elliott overall / Rag Bone overall / Topshop overall / Frame Denim overall / Frame Denim short overall

Overalls typically go hand in hand with 5 year olds and pigtails, so it was surprising to see the clothing piece become a recurring trend. When I first saw the trend worn as a light wash rinse with extremely ripped cutoffs, I was worried that this was becoming a fashion piece that would be synonymous with high-low skirts and leggings as pants (don't even get me started). However, I started to see popular fashion bloggers and celebrities wearing overalls in a really chic and attainable way, which completely changed my opinion on the piece. I've been coveting the rag & bone jumpsuit denim version for a while and I know that it will be the perfect trend for the summer time!

Which overall is your favorite?

If I Were On A Deserted Island, The 3 Products I Would Bring Are...

I've got my fair share of beloved beauty products in my stash but there are three that really stand out. In fact, they're so loved that I would go as far as to say that if I were stuck on a deserted island, these are the products I would bring with me. Every deserted 'island girl' needs a complexion perfecter for those days when the piercing rays of the sun zap the skin with sun spots, blemishes, and/or dark circles. My perfecter of choice is of course the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard. This concealer is perfect for all skin concerns and it is especially excellent at covering blemishes and spots. As a deserted girl, I would use this on the regular to conceal sleepless nights and active spots so that when I'm rescued by a handsome ship captain, I'll look my absolute best! (kidding). Another product that every girl needs in her beauty bag is a brow filler. No woman has perfect brows (although we all wish we did!) and girls who are stuck on an island especially need to extra brow grooming. The Anastasia Brow Wiz in Granite is the perfect shade to elongate my brows and fill in any sparse gaps. As the sun would have probably lightened my brows a shade or two, I would recommend using this product with a very light hand! Last but not least, a deserted island girl needs a lip tint/balm. When you are struggling to survive and remain gorgeous whilst being lost in the middle of nowhere, you probably won't have time to apply a bold lip color without getting sand on your lips. I absolutely love the Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Plum Jam to add the perfect amount of moisture and color to the lips all while protecting them with a hint of SPF (which every island girl NEEDS!). With these three products at my reach, I'll be beautified and groomed while I wait for my rescue!

The Home Stretch

I want this to be more of a 'chit chat' post as I've nearly exhausted all of the current beauty and fashion topics on my list. I'm coming to the end of the school year and I honestly can't explain how relieved I am to be done (almost). If it seems like my recent posts haven't been published at their absolute best, I apologize at my severe lack of sleep and mental rest. Now that I only have a week or so left of the year, I'm going to be writing my classic fashion and beauty tutorial posts to be published really soon. Thank you for all of your support no matter what. I really appreciate you all!

Sephora Favorites: Smith's Rosebud Salve

There are so many different lip balm formulas and brands on the market from Palmer's to Burt's Bees to Carmex. At Sephora, the store houses multiple lip balms, and one of my favorites is Smith's Rosebud Salve ($9). I used to always carry the tin version of the balm in my bag, but when I discovered that the same balm is housed in a squeeze tube, I literally squealed in the store. Dipping my fingers in the tub was really unhygienic, so when I found the tube version it was like all my germophobe wishes were answered! The lip balm is a thin texture that feels lightweight on the lips. It has a decent shine to it, which probably isn't the best to wear under lipsticks, but it works wonders when worn to bed throughout the night. To anyone looking for an affordable lip balm that moisturizes and hydrates the lips, I highly recommend Rosebud Salve!

Mother's Day 2014

To my Mom: Happy Mother's Day! Thank you for everything that you've done for me over the years. I don't know how I could ever repay you. You're my best friend and I love you so much!

This year's Mother's Day was an excellent one, to say the least as our day was filled with food and family! My parents and I went to church in the morning and then had a nice brunch at our favorite Café Laufer. Dad ordered a spinach, mushroom, and bacon quiche; mom got a tuna sandwich; and I tried their waffles and sausage. After lunch we went home and rested as my dad cooked a huge dinner for our family. We ate chicken marsala, homemade pizzas and caesar salad for dinner over laughter and stories. Overall it was a really great day and I hope you all had an excellent Mother's Day as well!
