The Flawless Face Fix

Over the past couple of weeks or so, I discovered the absolute perfect pair to achieve a flawless face without cakeyness or grease.  I've loved these two products individually for their natural finish and medium-full coverage but when I applied them together, I fell in love. The NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in the shade Punjab (Medium 1) is a beautiful medium coverage foundation with a semi-matte/satin finish that lasts all day long on my oily skin. I've loved this foundation for the past three years and I didn't think I could enjoy it more than I did before (I was wrong). When paired with the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard (Medium 1), the base products melt together. Because the foundation and concealer are both Medium 1 shades, they seamlessly blend together without leaving any traces of makeup on my face. The pairing looks incredibly flawless, lasts all day long, and looks natural on my skin! They're a winning pair!

Style Spotlight: Victoria Beckham

This issue of the 'Style Spotlight' is all about my personal style icon and fashion hero: Victoria Beckham. VB first landed in the Hollywood spotlight in the 90's when she was Posh Spice in the Spice Girls. Her style used to be young and hip at the time until she morphed into a chic fashion expert who launched her career as a fashion designer. VB normally wears tight pants/jeans, a flowy top, oversized coat, and of course, gorgeous heels. Her clothing label has exploded in the celebrity world and is full of beautiful clothes and accessories (for a hefty price). I'm completely obsessed with her classic and feminine style, which makes Victoria an honorary 'Style Spotlight' fashion woman.

The Annual Chop

During every autumn for the past four years, I've scoured the internet for photos of mid-length, choppy bobs. I used to grow my hair out to my waist but as I grew older, I decided that a shorter cut is more flattering on me. Although I cut my hair in the early summer time, I've been really inspired by the shorter cuts that I search for every year on Pinterest. This year, I want to chop my growing mane off into a shoulder-length cut with scattered layers and no fringe. If I decide to take the plunge soon, I'll hopefully get this cut and fall in love with my wavy hair again!

The Perfect Fall Polish

After nearly a two month hiatus of 'naked nails', I decided that the fall would bring deeper makeup and bold nails. I've been searching for the perfect burgundy/wine varnish that would match my oxblood lip colors and new Kate Spade purse. I recently picked up the Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Nail Enamel in the shade Queen of Hearts because I immediately fell in love with the color. The polish isn't too thick and goes opaque in two coats. The best part about the varnish is that it dries within one minute and doesn't look gloopy or patchy! The lasting power isn't that great and I would definitely choose my OPI polishes formulation wise, but this color is too perfect to toss out.

Noelle Listens: October 2014

After a few posts about my current music favorites, I decided that I would start a monthly series called 'Noelle Listens', which is exactly what the title says. I'll be sharing my 5 favorite songs of the month (hard to choose only 5!) and I'll be writing mini reviews of each piece of music. The songs won't be any particular genre- it'll be a 'mixed tape!' Pun intended. I hope you guys enjoy this!

Rollercoaster by Bleachers

This song has the typical 80's pop sound, which I adore! It reminds me of Pretty in Pink, St. Elmo's Fire, and the other popular movies of the time that all had amazing music and acting.

Sweetness by Jimmy Eat World

Jimmy Eat World was one of my favorite bands when I was in elementary school because I watched One Tree Hill every week. This song is filled with amazing guitar riffs and the drums sound amazing!

(Untitled) by Sigur Ros

Sigur Ros is an incredible indie band with the most heavenly sound led by Jonsi Birgisson's falsetto vocals. The instrumentals in this song are awe-inspiring.

Chasing A Ghost (Ever Since) by The Head and the Heart

I don't think any explanation is needed for this song. Just close your eyes and listen.

I Don't Want to Change You by Damien Rice

After an eight-year hiatus, Damien Rice is back with a new song in his typical soft-spoken-and-haunting voice. He's a real gem.

A Lightweight Everyday Sunscreen

Although I’ve lived in Hawaii my whole life, I haven’t been an avid sunscreen user until recently. I know that protecting my skin from harmful rays is absolutely necessary in order to avoid sun damage and cancer, but it always seemed like an extra step in my routine that I didn’t need. After watching hours of YouTube skincare routines (involving daily SPF's of course) and reading blog posts about the importance of sun protection, I decided to pick up a face cream from Sephora. I reached for the Clinique Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Sunscreen, which is a lightweight cream that completely protects my face on a day to day basis. It's only $21.50 for the amount of product given and provides both UVA and UVB protection! This cream is a good primer for makeup and doesn't make my base look sloppy or patchy. It's an overall great sunscreen that I'll definitely repurchase!

The Cape Expedition

All photos found on Pinterest

If there's one clothing item I've been coveting for the fall time, it's a beautiful cape. Capes are often intertwined with superheros and other childlike celebrities, but they can also be chic and feminine. Capes are cozy and non-restricting- allowing the wearer to carry purses in the crook of the arm, and to do other mundane everyday tasks without feeling held back (literally). The beauty of a warm cape is the fact that it adds a bit of luxury to otherwise plain pieces. When worn over jeans and a turtleneck, the outfit automatically goes from a 6 to a 10 in terms of glamour. Capes are beautiful and can make a girl feel like a million bucks (see Rosie HW above). If I were rich, I would immediately purchase the coveted Burberry Checked Cape from the brand's A/W 2014 show (which is sold out EVERYWHERE)!

Farewell, Oscar

Source: Miss Info

Throughout the whole of my short lifetime, I've been obsessed with fashion. I wanted to be a fashion designer from the time I was in kindergarten, which showed through my (mostly outrageous) creative drawings. Because of my love for clothing and style, I constantly exposed myself to the world of fashion- including designers, stylists, celebrities, and fashion weeks. I first fell in love with Coco Chanel and the way she epitomized chic masculinity. Her creation of the little black dress and the reintroduction of women's pants were game changers in the ever-evolving world of clothes. I aspired to be a powerful woman worthy of wearing brands like Chanel, Dior, and the high fashion Oscar de la Renta gowns.

Yesterday, Mr. de la Renta sadly passed away from complications with cancer. He was battling the disease for the past eight years and passed peacefully in Connecticut surrounded by his loved ones. De la Renta was born in the Dominican Republic and later studied to be an American citizen after his first designs went public. He was trained by Cristobal Balenciaga and Antonio del Castillo and became an international powerhouse after he dressed Jacqueline Kennedy in the 1960's. De la Renta worked at many fashion houses such as Balmain, Lanvin and Arden before he made his own reputation as a haute couture designer. Mr. de la Renta dressed hundreds of celebrities and first ladies such as Jackie O, Hilary Clinton, Michelle Obama, Amal Clooney, Amy Adams, Taylor Swift, Anne Hathaway, etc. He will forever be remembered by his extravagant gowns and wedding dresses and for his kind, soft demeanor. Farewell, Oscar de la Renta.

The Best Day of My Life

Today was a game changer, everyone. After years of lusting over attending Baylor University and a long application process, I was accepted into the beautiful school today! Baylor holds a special place in my heart as my dad went there and we have many friends and family who live around the area. Baylor has everything I want in a school from the Journalism and Fashion departments to an amazing sports program (Big 12 champions in football, men and women's basketball, and equestrian), from the breathtaking campus to the decades-old traditions, Baylor is the perfect place for me. I'm still in shock that I was accepted and the news hasn't really sunk in yet. However, I'm extremely excited and overjoyed and I can't wait to be in Waco!

Autumnal Hats

There are many fashion ideals that I will abide by, including mixing prints, voluminous and fitted pieces, and all denim looks. However, I usually (if not always) stay away from a couple of styles or pieces such as: wearing brown anything and wearing hats. Brown is probably my least favorite color of all time and although it looks nice on others, it tends to look trashy and granny-ish on me. I've always been a must-have-perfect-hair-girl and so hats have always been out of my fashion vocabulary. Recently, I've seen many different women wearing wool or felt hats during the cooler fall months and have found them to be gorgeous when paired with windswept hair and a lightweight coat. I've been on the hunt for a perfect hat for autumn and have found it in these four styles. My favorite out of the four has to be the heather gray rag & bone one because of its chic and edgy shape that will last me for years to come!

The Budget Brow

If there's one beauty product that really gets me going, it's a good eyebrow product (or a foundation...or concealer...or bronzer...or lipstick...etc). Whether it's a powder, waxy color, brow mascara, or pencil, I love an eyebrow product that can take me from 90's Gwen Stefani (go ahead and see for yourself) to an almost-there Cara Delevigne. I'm extremely dedicated to my Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Dark Brunette, but there's another product in the ring that already has me wrapped around it's wand.

I've spoken about this product in a few videos already, but I haven't fully discussed its sheer glory here on the 'ole blog. The Maybelline Brow Drama in Deep Brown is a killer bargain for what you get. Long description short, it's a sculpting brow mascara with tinted fibers in it that coat the brow hairs and make them appear fuller. Basically what I do on a daily basis is fill my hairs in with the Hourglass Pencil and then brush the Maybelline spoolie through the brows, which coats them with tint and also sets them in place so they won't budge all day. If you've been wanting to try out the Benefit Gimme Brow for easy, no-makeup-makeup days but aren't willing to fork over the $22, then I would highly recommend giving this under-a-tenner brow product a go!

Style Spotlight: Anna Wintour

Back in 2013, I decided to create a series of posts called "style spotlight", which highlighted different stylish women throughout history. I wrote about Jackie O, Grace Kelly, and Audrey Hepburn and today is Anna Wintour's day.

For those of you who don't know who Anna is (God forbid), she is the Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue aka the fashion girl's Bible. Anna has been in charge of Vogue for the past 26 years and can always be spotted on the red carpet or in the FROW (front row) of every show at New York, Milan, Paris, and London fashion weeks. Anna has been known for being 'icy' and 'scary', but she can definitely put a gorgeous outfit together. Her style can be described as feminine chic with a modern twist, shown through her classic tweed jackets and oversized dark sunglasses.

San Francisco Trip | Alamo Square & The Painted Ladies

While my family and I were prepping for our trip to San Francisco, we made to sure to create a list of all the places we wanted to visit and all the restaurants we wanted to eat at. Because I decided that I would take my senior pictures in the Bay Area, I wanted to find beautiful places that were different and unique. One of my favorite SF fashion bloggers, Julia, wrote a post of her favorite places in the city to visit and roam around, including Alamo Square by the Painted Ladies.

If you don't know what the Painted Ladies are, they're a street of Victorian houses painted with bright colors and are nicknamed "postcard row" because of the beautiful scenery and homes. Alamo Square is the lush park next to the houses, which is the perfect area for dog lovers to hang out and frequent picnic-ers. When Julia showed her fabulous pictures of the green foliage in the park and the beautiful landscape, I knew I had to visit the park for myself and take pictures. This is definitely one of my new favorite spots in SF and we'll have to head back over to the flower beds with a basket of sandwiches and scones!
