If you've been reading my blog for a while you would know that I tend to stray towards blue toned red and pink lip colors. I usually try to avoid any warm tones like oranges and corals because I've always felt that they don't suit me well. As spring and summer approaches, I've pulled out any coral colors in my makeup stash to try and sort them out. I've got two drugstore offerings and they're both stunning in the packaging. The first is the Covergirl Jumbo Gloss Balm in 235, which is a glossy twist up balm stick with no scent. The texture can leave the lips quite patchy and that's something I don't like about the product. Despite that fact, it's very moisturizing and the color is actually wearable because of the sheer formula. The second is a Maybelline Colorsensational Lipstick in 515 Coral Crush, which is a moisturizing lipstick. This one leans more towards a red than coral, but it's actually very nice. I will be pulling this one out during the warmer months to add a pop of color to my slightly tanned face!

As you may have noticed, I'm a huge fan of face products. Even though I recently purchased the Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage, I've been wanting to try the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer ($28) in Custard from the time it was released. After lots of research through videos and reviews on the product, I decided to make the purchase! I am so satisfied with the concealer and it's quickly become a holy grail product. The texture of the concealer is quite thick and creamy (hence the name), but it doesn't look cakey or heavy on the skin. Although it's marketed as a concealer with a "radiant" finish it's actually natural/matte. Many a blogger have raved about how it covers under eye circles and darkness, but I find that it looks amazing on blemishes! Because of the thick texture, it covers redness and spots flawlessly, leaving the skin with a naturally clear finish. On lazy days, I've been using it on red patches and pesky blemishes without any foundation. The concealer is very full coverage, so be sure to use it sparingly! Out of all the concealers I've used in the past, this one truly is the best. If you're looking for a long lasting, full coverage concealer with a natural finish, I highly recommend the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer!
After receiving a gorgeous necklace with charms inside for my birthday, I fell in love with the company Origami Owl. Origami Owl is a unique jewelry company that started when founder Isabella was 16. She wanted a jeep for her birthday, but her parents insisted that she make her own money by starting a company. Bella decided that she would create lockets with charms inside of them so that the piece of jewelry would be personal for each person. Today, the company has around 60,000 "independent designers" that sell Origami Owl pieces all over the world. My mom and I recently joined the company as independent co-designers and we're so excited to start! The company has such cute necklaces, charms, dangles, and bracelets to make personalized jewelry art. Each necklace is really affordable and the hardware is well made. If you would like to see more of the jewelry, I highly recommend heading over to nkakimoto.origamiowl.com to check out the beautiful pieces and charms! You won't regret it!
1. I've been loving taking pictures of my daily life and of family and friends. Here's a picture of my (super cute) grandpa!
2. The number of fashion posts I'm writing and shooting are increasing! This one is a sneak peek for a post coming soon.
3. I can't wait to get my hands on one of these gorgeous Lip Lovers from Lancome!
4. I've never really been a sports fan until my love for Baylor University grew and I've quickly become a die hard BU fan in every sport they play! I'm really enjoying watching both the women and men teams in March Madness.
5. Since I'm on spring break right now, hanging out with my friends and family has been really great and relaxing!
I've always loved fashion from the time I was young. When I was in Kindergarten, I used to draw pictures (badly) of myself complete with a head to toe blinged out outfit and accessories. Those pictures gradually became more classy and chic as my love for clothes grew. I wanted to be a fashion designer with my own "one stop shop" where ladies could get their hair, makeup, and nails done while also get dressed in a gorgeous outfit. As I grew up, my dreams of being a fashion designer transformed into me wanting to become a makeup artist/wardrobe stylist/fashion and beauty blogger.
These days, I've really been enjoying writingand taking photos for fashion/outfit posts. This outfit really came together in an organic fashion (pun intended) as I first reached for this beautiful pale pink dress from Forever 21. I paired the dress with my new favorite Keds for Kate Spade New York Pointer Sneakers in Painterly Lemon, which is my current obsession. For accessories, I grabbed my Badgely Mischka Quilted Handbag and my Daniel Wellington Classic Sheffield Watch. This outfit is very fun and the colors are perfect for the Spring time!
Spring 2014 beauty is all about a neutral eye and a bold, glossy lip. This season is always my favorite when it comes to makeup launches and so far, every collection brings gorgeous new products! The products I'm most excited to experiment with has got to be lip gloss. Lip gloss isn't normally my thing because I hate how it can be gloopy and has an irritating magnetism towards hair. The lip glosses that look the prettiest this season promise lightweight texture with full coverage color. The main lip gloss launches are from Lancome, Urban Decay, and YSL.
The Lancome 'Lip Lover' is supposed to have the hydration of a balm, vivid shine of a gloss, and the intense pigment of a lipstick. The adorable packaging and pretty colors are currently making the product #1 on my wish list! The product comes in the shades:
311 Rose D’eau
313 Rose Ballet
314 Casse Noisette
316 Rose Attrape Coeur
320 Ambre Arabesque (Nordstrom Exclusive)
321 Rose Contre Temps
332 Beige Adage
333 Rose des Nymphes
334 Coraile Cabriole
336 Orange Maege
337 Lip Lover
338 Rose des Cygnes
339 Fuchsia Attitude
355 Framboise Etoile
356 Belle de Rouge (Nordstrom Exclusive)
357 Bouquet Final
361 Violette Pirouette
362 Bordeaux Tempo
The Urban Decay Naked Lip Glosses are sheer and creamy, but provide the lips with hydration. The color payoff isn't great as all of the glosses look fairly similar, but apparently that's what the makeup house was going for. They're non-sticky and are supposed to last up to 3-4 hours on the lips with typical daytime activities. The shades are:
Walk of Shame
Last but not least is the YSL Gloss Volupte. The Gloss Voluptes have a very unique brush shape to apply the product intensely with full pigmentation. They come in three finishes: Golden, Iridescent, and Pure. The glosses range from sheer to full coverage and they mainly last around 2-3 hours on the lips. The collection has the gorgeous typical YSL packaging, which is very glamorous and classic. The colors/shades are:
N2 Or Saharienne
N3 Rose Fusion
N4 Fuchsia Vermeil
N10 Or Rose
N15 Grenade Pepite
N19 Rose Orfevre
N20 Nude Carat
N30 Corail Lingot
N49 Terriblement Fuchsia
N102 Rose Satine
N103 Opium Persan
N104 Prune Organdi
N202 Rose Jersey
N203 Corail Gandoura
N204 Corail Trapeze
N205 Rouge Shantung
N206 Fouchsia Oran
N207 Rouge Velours
Which lip gloss collection looks the most promising to you?
There are many innovative products and formulations in the beauty market but the most interesting so far is the Revlon Parfumerie Nail Polishes ($5). Nail colors have been released left and right with different textures, shades, and formulations, but this one really sparked my interest. The classy packaging is very reminiscent of perfume and the wide brush makes application very easy. There are many different colors and "scents", but the one I went for is a pale yellow called Fresh Linen. Upon application, the scent wasn't very noticeable until the polish dried. I found that the polish went on very thin and streaky, which was unfortunate because the color is so pretty. It took 3+ coats to make it bold enough to see the actual color. Because it took so many coats, the polish dried in around 2 hours. It smudged very easily and now with only 3 days of wear, it's begun to chip and crack. The scent has still lingered for the past 3 days, but if I put my fingers by my mouth, I can taste the bitter scent. Although the idea of the polish is a good one, the actual formulation sucks. I would recommend spending the money on a Sally Hansen or even an Essie shade for a couple extra dollars!
Have you tried the Revlon Parfumerie nail polishes? What were your thoughts?
Chubby sticks are a product that's been on the makeup market for quite some time. Clinique started the trend with their original balm launch and the rest of the beauty world followed quickly behind. I've tried the likes of Clinique, Tarte, and the original Revlon ones. Recently, Revlon released their Lacquer balms and Matte balms as a different approach to the first colorburst balms in the collection. I picked up one of the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms ($8) in Sultry the other day and I bloomin' love it. Sultry is a cool toned dark fig shade, which is almost a "my lips but better" color. Because it's a matte lip color, it lasts on the lips for around 6-7 hours without fading or cracking. The range of colors is awesome and the price is right so I highly recommend these balms as a great alternative to the Clinique Chubby Sticks!
Today I'm back with my Spring Edit which is chock full of beauty (and candy!) goodness. Spring is my favorite time of the year with all the different types of pastel makeup and nail colors. I've got an abundance of nail colors, lip products, and shadows to share with you all today! To start off with, I've been using my Stila In The Light Eyeshadow Palette recently for all of the gorgeous shimmer shades. The selection of neutral colors is extremely wearable and looks so pretty against pink cheeks or lips. For the perfect natural base, I've been reaching for my Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation and (my new holy grail concealer) the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer to perfect and correct my skin. The finish is demi-matte and looks just like my natural skin. I discovered a new "just pinched" cheek color in the Revlon Matte Blusher in Wine With Everything, which is the perfect plum shade. I've been on a pink lip kick and my two current favorites are the Rimmel Show Off in Aurora and the Revlon Matte Balm in Sultry. The former is a bright pink and the latter is a muted fig shade. On my nails I've chosen two pale pastel shades that are perfect for the new season. The first is Essie Mint Candy Apple and the other is a new discovery: Revlon Parfumiere in Fresh Linen. Besides all the beauty bits, I'll be munching on the Cadbury Mini Eggs, which are completely delicious! If you all stay tuned, I'll be creating a delectable dessert using the candy soon!
I'll let you in on a secret: Brunch is one of my favorite things ever. Last weekend I was lucky enough to go to my favorite brunch location so far, which is the Orchids Restaurant at Halekulani Hotel in Waikiki. A couple of family friends were visiting from the mainland and a tradition of ours is to eat at the hotel together whenever they're here (Hi Uncle John and Aunty Donna!). Orchids has the most amazing brunch buffet that I've ever experienced! There is a wide selection of pastries, fresh fruits, salads, breakfast foods, desserts, and more. I like to hit the pastries and fruits first and I usually pick the chocolate croissant, blueberry muffin, papaya, and pineapple. The breakfast lineup has ready made meats and benedicts with an omelet bar on the side. There's also a large carving station with pork and beef hot and ready for dipping in the abundance of sauces. My favorite part of the brunch is arguably the dessert selection. There are amazing cakes, tarts, ice cream, and even a chocolate dipping station! Orchids has a really great set breakfast menu, but I highly recommend their Sunday brunch. It's quite pricey, but the experience is worth it!
