T by Alexander Wang Dress

Over the summer I worked countless hours at a health insurance company and I immediately deposited my paychecks into my savings account. I wanted to save my money for college, Christmas presents, and regular spending money but I decided to treat myself for working so hard over the break. I spotted this amazing shirtdress by T by Alexander Wang and I instantly fell in love. The jersey material and oversized style had my name written all over it and I picked it up as soon as I saw in on the Net-a-Porter website. Living in Hawaii, we don't get extremely cold weather so I knew that this dress would be an all-year favorite that I could dress up with heels and a clutch or down with flats and I shoulder bag like I styled here. This dress is one of my favorite purchases I've ever made and I won't ever take it off (currently typing this while wearing the dress for inspiration...)

New Lighting Additions + YouTube

If you haven't been up to date on this little blog of mine recently, then you wouldn't have seen the weekly videos I've been posting. After years of watching YouTube videos from gurus like ViviannaDoesMakeup, ICovetThee, Tanya Burr, Zoella, and Pixiwoo, I finally took the plunge and started my own channel. YouTube is an amazing website that allows normal people like me to create videos and share them with the online world. It sounds scary at first, but the concept is absolutely amazing. YouTube has started the careers of many different vloggers and has turned them into full fledged business people with brands and clothing collections, beauty sets, and tv shows that they wouldn't have been involved with without the online sharing site. I've been obsessed with beauty tutorials and fashion videos for the longest time when I finally decided to make my own videos.

I've been accumulating photography and video equipment over the past 6 months including the Canon Rebel t3i dslr, Canon tripod, and this new light set that I'm so excited about. The softbox light sets I was looking at for a while were over $300 and for a full time student like me, that's a lot of money to spend on a hobby. After deleting the softbox set from my Amazon cart, I decided to look at the more budget friendly options. The first set that stood out to me was the LimoStudio Portrait Studio 600W Daylight Lighting Kit that included three high quality lights for under $50! The lights are incredible and have really upped the quality of my videos in high definition. YouTube has definitely become one of my favorite past times to create video content and I hope that you all have been enjoying the videos. If you feel so kind, please head over to my channel here and subscribe in order to stay up to date with my weekly beauty tutorials!

Baylor University vs. Iowa State Recap

Source: Baylor Bears Football
Baylor University football won quite a game yesterday in Ames, Iowa, playing against Iowa State University. The Bears, ranked #7 were prepared and ready to play the Cyclones in ISU's home stadium. Quarterback Bryce Petty played a great game throwing one touchdown and 336 yards with one of his greatest plays pictured above: his hurdle over an ISU player while he ran for a touchdown. The pair between Antwan Goodley and Corey Coleman after their injuries in past games contributed to Petty's excellent performance throughout the night. The two receivers combined had one touchdown, 18 catches and 268 yards total. As the Bears reached 14-7, ISU quarterback Sam Richardson threw an interception that gave Baylor a touchdown and led 21-7 with over half the second quarter still left. Shock Linwood ran a 24-yard touchdown and Johnny Jefferson followed with a 12-yard touchdown, leaving the score at 35-7 at halftime.

The Cyclones exploded in the beginning of the third quarter with Richardson throwing a 47 yard touchdown but then tried an onside kick that sailed out of bounds in which Linwood ran another touchdown, making the score 42-14. Cyclones' Ted Ecby had a 51-yard touchdown catch, but the team couldn't keep up with the explosive Bears. Baylor had 601 total offensive yards in the game with the final score at 49-28. Coach Art Briles commented on the game saying, "It's tough to win on the road. Iowa State is a good football team. We did what we had to do. We're not happy, we're not patting each other on the back or saying were the best team around. We did a workman-like job tonight and took care of business in an environment that wanted to beat us." The Bears will play the  University of Texas on October 4th at 2:30 pm CT in Austin.

French Je Ne Sais Quoi

Think about the differences between Americans and the French. Americans are always rushing around whether it be to work, a meeting, an event or a birthday, they never know when to slow down and take a break. Vacations for Americans are never true breaks from the hassles of everyday life. Their iPhones are their lives- constantly pinging the sound of a new email or text message that the American will most likely drop everything to respond to. The French know how to be relaxed and when to work hard. Their (average) 35 hour work week allows them to take time for themselves and also work extremely hard when they are at the office. They are the most classic and beautiful people (in my opinion) and we Americans can take a nod from the French, especially their amazingly styled women.

The French woman is the epitome of chic, classic, and stylish. Unlike Americans who are constantly on the go or dressing to the nines at regular events, the French woman is calm, cool and collected at all times. She was raised to be poised and to never take herself too seriously. She prefers to stick to neutrals whenever necessary and to keep accessories to a minimum. Black flats and pumps are her shoe of choice and she can always be seen sporting a smokey eye or a red lip (never at the same time). She keeps her makeup as natural as possible by either evening out the skin tone and polishing the brows or not wearing makeup at all. She spritzes Chanel N° 5 under her neck and on her wrists so that she always smells like a classic woman.

Emmanuele Alt, Editor-in-Chief of French Vogue is a classic French woman. She can always be found dressed impeccably with the most natural and gorgeous makeup. Her hair is perfectly tousled and never looks like she sprayed a can of hairspray in it. She keeps her nails bare and her style is very wearable for the regular woman. Her wardrobe of button down oxfords, soft t-shirts, slim jeans, and black heels are the choice of women like me, everyday. At the age of 46, Alt has been the editor of French Vogue for three years and she's still making an impact in her style everywhere she goes. She doesn't sport loads of jewelry and keeps her accessories to a complete minimum. However, Alt makes a statement with her clothing and her beauty looks despite the fact that they're simple. The chicness of the French woman glows from within. She has a no fuss attitude and doesn't spend her days on the likes of Instagram or Twitter. She sleeps for long periods of the day and doesn't drink or smoke (which contributes to her amazing skin). Alt is the quintessential French woman and we should all take a note from her.

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara: A Narrative

Source: Family Friendly Frugality
There are certain beauty products that are cult favorites all over the world. From the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat to NARS Orgasm Blush, these products are most likely found in the beauty bags of makeup artists, celebrities, and editors alike. One makeup item sticks out among the rest as the one products we've all probably purchased sometime in our lives: the Maybelline Great Lash Mascara. The iconic pink and green mascara tube is one of the most famous products in the world and has an extreme cult following. Bloggers dub it 'the best mascara in the world' while makeup artists tote it in their kits for 20+ years (of course, not the same tube). It's the archetypal full, thick lash magic tube with a curly wand that should give consumers the lashes they've always dreamed of. However, that wasn't the case in my experience.

I purchased Great Lash at Target when I was first starting out in my beauty journey 4 years ago. The colorful and famous mascara bottle stuck out to me among the rest as I naively picked it up with excitement. I thought that I would be given big, fluttery lashes without a clump in sight (as the Maybelline website describes) but I was quickly disappointed. The mascara instantly coated my lashes with a thick, black goop creating two fat lashes. All of my length and volume was stuck together in a spidery, makeup-gone-wrong sort of fashion. I didn't want to give up the hope I had in the pink and green product, so I tossed it on the side and used it the next day. My faith in the 'world's best mascara' couldn't help me coat each individual lash and this time, I was left with one large hair on top of my eyelid. Although the mascara is incredibly affordable, I couldn't help but feel disappointed and wasteful in the monetary department. Am I applying it wrong? How could these celebrities and makeup artists praise a product that's so awful? Maybe I just picked up a faulty tube. All of the doubts in my own beauty practice filled my mind and yet I still couldn't wrap my thoughts around this horrible mascara. It could be the way I brushed the mascara through my lashes or the fact that I didn't wipe some of the product off of the wand after each use, but I know that I'll never try this 'cult product' ever again.

Video | Bronzed and Smokey

Another week, another video! This tutorial is all about the dramatic, classic smokey eye featuring shades from my NARSissist Eye Palette and a healthy dose of The Body Shop Honey Bronzer in 03. I tried to make this typical "bold evening look" as easy to wear as a naked eye. This could be sported in the daytime for brunch or out for a fancy dinner. I hope you enjoy the look and don't forget to like the video and subscribe to my channel!

Noelle Eats | Vino Italian Tapas & Wine Bar

Last Friday night, my parents and I got dressed up and went out to Vino Italian Tapas & Wine Bar for a nice dinner. Vino is located on Restaurant Row in downtown and it's an intimate restaurant and bar with the most divine Italian-esque food. For appetizers we ordered a Caesar salad and a broccolini and sweet pepper pizza. The menu was a nice spread of pastas, meat, and fish dishes with an Italian inspiration. I ordered the Osso Bucco over mashed potatoes, tomatoes, mushrooms, and a red wine reduction. Mom got the New York steak on top of mashed potatoes with a red wine demi glace and broccolini and Dad chose the Dungeness Crab linguini. All of our dishes were absolutely heavenly and were the perfect portions. We couldn't leave the restaurant without ordering dessert, so we chose the warm Apple tart a la mode. The croissant-like crust was soft and crispy while the apples were thinly sliced and soaked up all of the caramel and vanilla bean ice cream. The dinner was fabulous and we had a wonderful time!

The Body Shop Amazonian Wild Lily Fragrance

Never in my years of toying with beauty products would I think to purchase a fragrance from a 'drugstore' brand like The Body Shop. I've been in love with the Chloe Eau de Parfum for the past two years and I didn't think I would ever push it on the side in favor of a lighter, more affordable fragrance. The Body Shop Amazonian Wild Lily Eau de Toilette is one of the most beautiful and refreshing scents I've tried in a while. It smells of rain and dewy lilies while lasting on the skin for hours on end. Although it's not a Fall fragrance per say, it is one that will remain in my collection for years.

2014 Fall Fashion Finds

Although I'm not a fan of Fall/Autumn (bad memories of school time), I'm in love with the clothes that follow the season. Hawaii doesn't get super cold throughout the year, but fall clothes are perfect for the chilly days in Honolulu (chilly- aka low of 65 degrees). Nordstrom is stocked with gorgeous ankle boots, lightweight coats, and beautiful jeans that would look amazing paired with some of the tops in my wardrobe. Seeing grays and blacks instead of Summer brights puts a pep in my step since I'm a huge fan of neutrals. The J Brand jeans have been on my wishlist for months and the DKNY coat is a must have, especially since it's rather affordable for a beautiful fall staple. I can't wait for autumn to speed up and finally see the first signs of Christmas!

Paintbrush Strokes

Maison Jules Dress, Daniel Wellington Watch, Kate Spade Bag, Ralph Lauren Heels (similar here)

Although I love going to Nordstrom to pick up some of my favorite brands like rag & bone, Equipment, Joie, and Topshop, I'm a sucker for a new brand with adorable pieces. I recently spotted this gorgeous dress at Macy's in the Maison Jules section. I'd never heard of the brand before, but I instantly fell head over heels with not only the dress but also the price. Maison Jules stocks beautiful dresses, lightweight cardigans, skinny jeans, and flowy tops at a bargain price, so it's perfect for all ages. This dress reminded me of J. Crew's simplicity with a modern and colorful vibe. The shades on the dress will be perfect for fall and I know I'll be pairing it with some tights and boots when the cooler weather approaches!

San Francisco Trip | Ferry Building Farmer's Market

Whilst we were in San Fran, we had to visit the Saturday Farmer's Market held at the Ferry Building downtown. It's become something of a tradition in my family to go to the market every time we visit SF, even if we're only there for the weekend. The farmer's market is filled with gorgeous flowers, delicious food, and fresh produce ripe for the picking. I'm a huge fan of the plums and golden peaches at the market and always leave with a bag full of the juicy fruits. It's also fun to walk around and people watch as the locals always know where the great food is. A fresh lemonade, savory biscuit, or fried zucchini can always be found at the market and is amazing to find! If you're in the Bay Area, you must check out the Saturday Farmer's Market to pick up delicious food and have a great view at the same time!

The September Beauty Bundle

With September in full thrust, we are saying goodbye to sheer tints, a bronzed complexion, and skimpy shorts and hello to warm cardigans, dry skin, and dark eyeshadows. September as a whole feels like a marathon to me whilst I excitedly wait for Thanksgiving and Christmas to arrive. Nonetheless, the month is crucial, especially in the beauty world. One of the products I'll be giving a go in September is The Body Shop Vitamin E Serum in Oil. The lightweight oil is supposed to be used as a nightly treatment for dull, dehydrated skin promising fresh, more radiant skin in the morning. As the area around my nose has become more dry and flaky, I'm hoping that this serum will re balance everything. A beloved and forgotten palette I'll be using is the Stila In The Light Eyeshadow Palette. This was my first ever big eyeshadow purchase back in the day (aka 4 years ago) and I've loved it ever since. Stila eyeshadows are buttery and pigmented, which makes me wonder why I ever tossed this gem on the side. I'm especially loving Night Sky- a shimmery cerulean shade that looks amazing all over the lids. Speaking of eyes, I picked up the Revlon Bold Lacquer Waterproof Mascara in Blackest Black the other day and I'm. In. Love. This mascara has the most amazing brush with bristles that coat the lashes without making them look clumpy or spidery. It gives me insane volume and length and I know that I won't be putting this one down any time soon. Last but not least is a blush I've wanted to try out for a while. The Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Blushing Bride is a beautiful plumy rose shade that is going to be amazing in the fall time. The blushes are pigmented and blend well over bronzers or on its own on top of foundation.
