January Favorites

The first month of 2015 has gone by extremely quickly and although I don't have a whole lot of favorites, the handful I have are impeccable.

Let's start off with skin. I've experimented with multiple moisturizers for the past few months but none had really stood out to me other than the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. This moisturizer is lightweight, oil-free, and doesn't leave my skin looking like I slapped on a batch of grease. It hydrates some of the dry patches around my face without being overly moisturizing. The gel is light like a serum or a primer and dries immediately on the skin. This is definitely the best moisturizer I've ever used and I can't wait to purchase a new bottle when I run out! This month was all about the cream concealers and I have two for different parts of the face. For blemishes and redness, I have my trusty Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC3, which I took with me to Texas, Utah, and everywhere else I go. The concealer is hard and needs a bit of warmth to become malleable, but it covers everything and lasts all day long without fading. From dark marks to huge spots, Secret Camouflage has got me covered (literally). I discovered a new undereye concealer in the form of the Tarte Colored Clay CC Undereye Corrector in Light-Medium. This hydrating, light formula brightens the undereye area without any cakiness or creasing. It looks natural on the skin and makes me look like I've had a good eight hour rest. Eyeliner has become a go-to for everyday and I've been in love with the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Double Ended Eye Pencil in the shades Black Market and Tornado. I love applying the matte black Black Market in my tightline and smoking out my upper and lower lashlines with eggplant Tornado. The liners last all day long with no flaking or smudging and are intensely pigmented. For the lips, I have a pencil and a gloss; two lip products I never thought I would love. The NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien is a cool-toned pink with a hint of golden shimmer running throughout. The pencil is easy to apply and leaves a light stain on the lips while feeling lightweight and balmy. My gloss of choice in January has been the Urban Decay Naked Ultra Nourishing Lipgloss in Sesso, which I received in my Urban Decay Naked On the Run Palette. The gloss is non-sticky, feels like a balm on the lips, and has great color payoff. What more could you want from a lip product?

Natural Everyday Makeup

Although I'm a huge fan of dark smoky eyes, bold lips, and contoured cheeks, I can usually be seen sporting minimal makeup (a five+ product routine). For the look pictured, I used a total of eight makeup items ranging from concealer to lipstick. It's an easy, no-fuss routine that gives me enough time to sleep in an extra five minutes and grab an apple on my way out the door.

To start off, I dabbed the Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC3 on any redness and under my eyes and brushed on a bit of the Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation in Light Sand to even out the rest of my skin. The two products together create a lightweight, flawless base that looks extremely natural and lets my skin breathe. To add a hint of color to my face, I applied my favorite The Body Shop Honey Bronzer in shade 3 for dimension and warmth. I did my usual eyebrow routine by filling in any gaps with the Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Dark Brunette and set the brows with the Maybelline Brow Drama in Deep Brown. I lined my tightline with an Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Empire for a hint of definition and applied lashings of my Makeup Forever Smoky Extravagant Mascara in Black, which is impeccable at adding volume and length. Last but not least, I dabbed on a bit of the MAC Lipstick in Modesty for a bit of color and sheen.

Now, where's that apple?

A New Skincare Favorite

If you've been around this neck of the woods for a while, you would probably know that my all time favorite makeup remover is The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil. This budget-friendly oil removes every trace of makeup by rubbing on dry skin and toweling off with a damp Muslin cloth. I've used up five or six bottles of the oil throughout 2014, but decided to try something new when my recent one ran out. Enter the Bliss Fabulous Makeup Melt Gel-To-Oil Cleanser, an innovative skincare product that has the initial texture of a gel which transforms to an oil. This product removes all of my makeup quickly and easily without the greasy feeling of an oily cleanser. It dissolves all makeup and dirt and leaves my skin feeling nourished and clean. I'll definitely be using this throughout all of 2015!

Texas in January

My dad and I were lucky enough to take a really quick and spontaneous trip to Texas for the Cotton Bowl on January 1st. The trip was short and we spent most of our time visiting friends, eating junk food, and trying to not let the jet lag ruin our vacation. I wasn't able to take a lot of pictures of our time in my favorite state but I did manage a few snaps here and there. I hope you enjoy them!

2015 Reese's Senior Bowl

The annual Reese's Senior Bowl rolled around today with some of the nation's best college senior players in a sort of "Pro Bowl" fashion. Of course, my eyes were set on the North team with Baylor's Bryce Petty and Antwan Goodley participating in their last college game.

Although the North team earned a 34-13 victory over the South, Petty didn't have his best game. With a new football system paired with different teammates, Bryce inevitably struggled a bit. He led the North in passing yardage, but missed a few timing passes. "We had a couple of plays where the timing was off but at the end of the day, the ball was in my hands. It was still an unbelievable experience coming from Baylor to here and getting thrown into this system," he said. "It was great for me to understand concepts and protections and what it's going to be like at the next level. I had an absolute blast," (NFL). WR Antwan Goodley caught two passes for 37 yards and has been projected to be selected anywhere between the second and sixth round of the upcoming NFL draft.

A Sephora Beauty and Skincare Haul

The "quick trip to Sephora" to pick up a couple of items inevitably ends up $200 later with a happy Noelle and a fat black shopping bag. This time, I went into the holy store with my mom to check out a few new products and to sift around in my favorite makeup aisles. Of course, I ended up spending a chunk of extra holiday cash and left the store with a glorious bag full of beautiful products.

The first product I picked up is the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel for Combo-Oily skin. The iconic yellow container has held "holy grail status" for decades among beauty and skincare gurus. I tried a sample size of the moisturizer and I instantly fell in love. No promises yet, but I'm sure that the lightweight gel will become my new favorite skincare item. Next up is the Tarte Amazonian Clay Airbrush Foundation in the shade Light Sand. I've heard amazing reviews of this moisturizing powder foundation and I couldn't wait any longer to get my hands on it. The packaging is beautiful and the color match is spot on! The Bliss Fabulous Makeup Melt Gel to Oil Cleanser is the new kid on the oil block with a unique texture and process. Instead of using an oily cleanser to remove makeup, users are applying a thicker gel to dry skin, which then melts off all products like a dream. It's really weird to start off with, but I think I'll get the hang of it soon. For dark circles, the Tarte CC Undereye Corrector in Light-Medium is the guy for the job. The salmon-toned product is creamy and insanely pigmented- perfect for those pesky bags. The Ole Henriksen The Whole Truth Vitamin C Kit is an insane bargain for the products provided. I spotted this for my mom who's had trouble with dark spots and (what she likes to call) dull skin. The three piece kit has the brand's cult classic Collagen booster and a moisturizer and eye cream for those with more mature skins. Last but not least is another Natalie purchase in the form of the Dior Star Fluid Foundation in Linen to replace her favorite Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation. This little guy a luminous medium-coverage base for every day wear with it's lightweight texture and SPF 30.

Dang, I love Sephora runs.

Sick Days

I've been really sick lately with a really bad cold and the only thing that could make me feel less zombie-like is football (obviously). Whether I'm watching Sports Center, reading my Art Briles book, or resting next to my football, I've become quite obsessed. Here's hoping that I'll feel better soon!

Urban Decay Naked Basics 2

Before this past Christmas I had never tried any products from Urban Decay. I know, shocker! Although I had heard amazing things about their famous Naked palettes and 24/7 Glide On Eyeliners, I just never bought in to the hype. However, I was gifted many an Urban Decay product for my birthday and Christmas presents and they are all incredible.

The Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 palette is all kinds of gorgeous. The shades are all matte (except for the token highlight) and cool toned, which I normally don't go for. I'm always a huge fan of warm brown and bronze shades, but have found my heart in each of these stunning colors. I love applying Skimp as a highlight, Cover in the crease, Primal on the lid, and a bit of Undone in the outer corner. Because the shades are matte, they're easy to blend on are really creamy for the daytime. It's a small palette that's great for traveling and each shadow is completely amazing!

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." -Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. was arguably the most influential person in the Civil Rights Act in the US. He played a key role in ending the segregation of African Americans in the South and in the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. MLK was heroic to his followers and helped in the unity of all nationalities, black and white. Thank you Mr. King for everything you did to shape the America I know and love today.

The Spring 2015 Lip Color

Although it's not exactly Spring time yet, I've already found the perfect lip color for the season! Enter the Lipstick Queen Endless Summer Moisturizing Lipstick in Aloha- a sheer, cherry red balm that goes on smoothly and adds SPF 15 protection. I first saw this lipstick on Amelia's channel and I instantly fell in love with the gorgeous shade and no-fuss formulation. It reminds me of the Revlon Lip Butters and the Maybelline Baby Lips easy to wear textures for the warmer months. Even though this is technically a Summer product, I can imagine it paired with a cream colored dress and straw wedges for a quintessential Spring day!

Back on the Fitness Track

If there's one thing I'm not a fan of, it's exercise. I've always been the "girly girl" who stayed on the side in PE class when we would play racquet ball or ultimate disk. My lack of hand-eye coordination and overall dislike of sweating has made me into a couch potato who would rather write blog posts and watch football than go running.

However, I've recently been modifying my junk food intake and swapping my daily beauty browse for a Pop Sugar Fitness peruse and a workout via YouTube. Gone are the days of my three scoop chocolate ice cream fests and going weeks without laying eyes on my running shoes (for now...) and instead, I've been lifting weights (light ones) and doing crunches with the help of Cassey at Blogilates and eating turkey burgers and lettuce wraps. My after school activities have morphed into brisk runs around the neighborhood and intense cardio workouts via Karen Lord's Pilates Movement. I've been browsing around Nordstrom's own Zella Activewear and Nike Women's Spring Style Guide so that I won't have to sacrifice style for comfort.

Overall, I'm feeling really good about my progress, even though I'm moving slowly and taking it one day at a time. I'm hoping to make my health and fitness a bigger priority throughout the year and look for long-term effects to enjoy for the rest of my life!

New In at Sephora

There are always fantastic beauty releases after the holiday season and this year is no different. Sephora is packed with brand new skincare and makeup products to keep shoppers looking pretty for the new year. Although there are loads of fresh items hitting the shelves, I picked out a few that have really caught my eye over the past few weeks.

Starting clockwise from the left, the Smashbox Photo Filter Powder Foundation sounds like an absolute dream for natural, flawless skin lovers. It's supposed to be an oil-free creamy powder that allows the user to customize her coverage level without looking dry or cakey. How perfect for the Spring time! Next up is a skincare release from Benefit in the form of Puff Off!- an eye gel that's supposed to smooth and prime the under eye area. The custom "iron tip" feels cool on the skin and creates a satin canvas for concealer with no creasing. The absolute beaut of the quad is the Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette in the shade Obscura. Hourglass has brought out their Ambient Lighting Powders and Blushers in the past, but this one truly is gorgeous. The five eyeshadows are blended together, allowing the user to brush on each shadow individually or all together for a unique tint. There are two shimmers and three mattes in each and there is a large selection of palette shades. Last but not least is the YSL Volupté Tint-in-Oil in Undress Me 3. This hybrid gloss/balm/oil is described as a "lip tint suspended in a deep conditioning oil", which is stunning and lightweight on the lips. Eight shades housed in typically glamorous packaging makes for one beautiful Spring.

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser

I've tried out my share of cleansers over the past few years and they usually tend to have the same effects on the condition of my skin. I'm a big fan of thin, liquid cleansers that are either gels or milks. "The gentler the better" is my motto when it comes to face washes so that I don't strip the natural oils from my face but rather leave it supple and silky.

A recent emergency cleanser purchase shoved me in the direction of the sample sized Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. I've heard many good reviews of the product but had never tried it out before because I tend to use the same skincare items over and over again. When I first applied the product to my face, I immediately noticed the strong scent (fresh cucumbers?) waft my nose area. The cleanser was silky on the skin and didn't foam up or bubble. It's an overall great cleanser that hasn't made me break out or have any allergic reactions. It's not life changing, but it's definitely a lovely face wash for all skin types.

Uplifting Athletes 2015 Rare Disease Champion

I wrote about coach Brian Norwood the other day and today is all about his son Levi. Levi was a receiver for Baylor football and has been my favorite player on the team for the past year. He's a quick runner and has incredible skill on the field. Not only is Levi a fantastic football player, but he's also a wonderful person. I was lucky enough to have lunch with him and his family back in November and he was so kind and easy to talk to. Levi is currently in the running to become the Uplifting Athletes Rare Disease Champion, which is an award given to a leader in college football who has made a connection to a rare disease and has become an advocate or has established funds for said disease. Levi is #2 on the leaderboard and I'm hoping that all of you will vote to help him win this great award based on character rather than just athleticism. If you want to vote for Levi, please click here. You can vote once a day per email address. Thank you for supporting a phenomenal athlete and person!

The Long Lasting, No-Crease Eye Primer

Although I never used them before, primers have become essential to my daily routine. From pore minimizers to grease busters, priming agents help makeup to last longer and look fresh after a long day.

I've been using the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze for the past couple of years and it's made my eyeshadows last up to 16 hours without creasing or fading. The color is beautiful and the finely milled shimmer made the shadow wearable on its own. The only downside to the cream shadow is the color payoff when used underneath powders. I almost always wear a bronze smoky eye but sometimes I want to wear pale shadows or colors besides brown. Using the Color Tattoo is great for brown shadows but for any eye look imaginable, I've been using the NARS Pro Prime Smudgeproof Shadow Base. The NARS primer makes any eyeshadow last all day long without any extra color or creasing. It's a little expensive compared to the Maybelline Color Tattoo, but it's definitely worth it for those who love their eyeshadow looks!

At the end of the Baylor football season, it was announced that offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery would become the head coach at the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma. This was a pretty big loss for the bears as 'coach Monty' called great plays throughout his seven seasons at BU and coached alongside coach Art Briles for 16 seasons. Recently I spoke with my dad about the possibility of my favorite coach Brian Norwood (Associate Head Coach, Safeties Coach) leaving the school as well. I had the privilege of meeting and having lunch with coach Norwood and his family (Levi!!) in Waco when we went to Baylor for homecoming and he was so kind and welcoming. As of today, I discovered that coach Norwood would be following his friend coach Monty to Tulsa by becoming the team's co-defensive coordinator. This is a big loss in my eyes as coach Norwood has been a key player in football recruits and in the box during games. Although this is extremely sad and disappointing news, I wish coach Norwood all the best at Tulsa and am so grateful to have met him.
