I'm still not sure how the days go by quicker and quicker each month but we're now finding ourselves in the midst of spring! I had quite a good March in all aspects including school, band, travel, and blogging. I made a few beauty and fashion discoveries and even started writing my own music (will be discussing in future posts)!
One of my huge favorites in March was my custom MAC palette that I received for my birthday. I've been playing around with each shade recently and some of my notable favorites are Satin Taupe (first row, far left), Patina (first row, second from left), and Woodwinked (second row, middle). The shadows are all really pigmented and blend well together. I've been loving a shimmery shade all over the lid with a clean crease and lashings of mascara on an everyday basis. Speaking of mascara, my most loved product in March was the Urban Decay Perversion Mascara. This mascara helped me to achieve extremely long and bold eyelashes that are intensely black. The formula is a bit wet but doesn't make my lashes droop and curls them really well. I rediscovered two of my old holy grail products in the form of the Lancôme Lip Lover in the shade Rose Contre-Temps and the Jo Malone Peony and Blush Suede Cologne. The Lip Lover was one of my all time favorite lip products that I found last spring and I've been using it for an easy natural look. It's a beautiful rose shade that lasts a good amount of time without being sticky. The Jo Malone perfume is my second favorite scent that I've ever used because it smells fresh and floral- perfect for a spring day. Last but not least is my sole skincare product: the Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Cleanser. I loved this cleanser because it's a balm that transforms into a melted oil on the skin. It thoroughly cleans and hydrates even on oily skin types!

I've never been a huge fan of MAC products based on the fact that they always seem too avant garde and overhyped. I like a few of their lipsticks and their blushes are really nice and pigmented but some of their items I've dug into recently are the powder eyeshadows. MAC makes a lot of eyeshadow shades, finishes, and textures compared to other beauty brands and the fact that I've only started testing their shadows is strange to me. One of the eyeshadows that I've been loving recently is the shade Satin Taupe. Satin Taupe is an interesting one that is quite uncommon. The finish is slightly shimmery and the color is a mixture of pale lavender, elephant gray, and cool silver. This eyeshadow is beautiful against brown eyes with a clean crease and a bit of smudged brown eyeliner. I'm really enjoying wearing Satin Taupe with a pale pink blush and glossy pink lips for the spring!

Whilst in Maui, I was able to spend extra time with some of my favorite people including two of my closest friends Mikayla (blue jacket) and Kai‘olu (yellow shirt). I've been friends with Kai‘olu for nine years and we've gone through many ups and downs together. She's been there for me during my chubby upper elementary years and constantly listens to me vent or discuss who my newest favorite football player is. Mikayla and I became friends three years ago when she was a freshman and have become especially close over the years. We consistently say the same things at the same time and pretty much agree on everything. I'm really thankful for these friendships and for the time we spent together last week!

Over they years, I've grown quite fond of all things lashes. From tightlining to spending an extra 10 minutes on primers and extending fibers, big bold eyelashes have become a staple in my beauty routine. One of my favorite tricks in order to achieve the blackest and most voluminous lashes is to layer my favorite mascaras. Not all mascaras are created equally so I've been pairing one that lengthens with one that plumps.
The two mascaras that I've been obsessed with lately are the Makeup Forever Smoky Extravagant and the Urban Decay Perversion. Smoky Extravagant adds a ton of length to my medium-ish lashes and Perversion pumps up the volume factor. The two combined create the biggest boldest lashes I've ever had without looking overly spidery or fake. For those who don't like to apply or wear false lashes, then this combination is for you!

When I went on my short trip to Maui this past weekend, I went to visit ‘Iao Valley- the location where King Kamehameha conquered the island of Maui in his quest to unite the eight Hawaiian islands under his rule. ‘Iao is stunning and the lush green foliage creates the perfect backdrop for portraits and other photography ideas. I took a lot of pictures of the Valley and of my friends and I but today I wanted to share some of the landscape I saw when I was there.

This outfit screams fresh and casual in the spring time from the pastel pink handbag to the lightweight eyelet dress. I love a good breezy dress that can be dressed up or down and when layered under a light wash denim jacket, it's the perfect spring piece. This handbag from Kate Spade Saturday is a good size for every day and adds a bit of pizzazz to an otherwise simple outfit. This is one of my go-to spring outfits for the daytime and can easily go from day to night.

Over the years as a blogger, I've learned a few tips and tricks on how to perfect my craft (aka my face) but I feel like every day I learn something new. I recently started searching for the best way to make my makeup last as long as possible. I stumbled upon my favorite beauty blogger Anna's tip when she said that she mists a bit of setting spray on a beauty blender and pats it over her foundation and concealer. This forces the base products to really sink in to the skin and makes everything look more natural. I've been doing this when I have an extra long day and my face has looked flawless without being cakey or splotchy. This is definitely one tip I'll revisit!

This has been my go-to outfit for the chilly weather we've been experiencing here in Hawai‘i. The temperatures have been reaching the mid 60's and it's so cold (especially in the morning and evening)! I love wearing thin long-sleeved tops and jeans with a lightweight jacket or coat on top to keep my warm and cozy. Paired with casual flats and my trusty Mini MAC crossbody, it's comfy without any frumpiness!

Last night was my fourth and final Kamehameha School's Song Contest. I've gone to eight as my sister also graduated from the school so my last one felt like a long time coming. If you're not aware of what Song Contest is, it's a culminating event where each class in the high school sings one or three songs and competes against the other three classes. The freshmen always sing one co-ed song and the sophomores, juniors, and seniors sing three songs (women, men, and co-ed). The contest is extremely competitive and we work on our songs for nearly three months before the big night.
This year my class' women sang Kamalei A Paoa written and arranged by Randie Kamuela Fong, the men sang Ho‘i Ke Aloha I Ra‘iātea written by Randie Kamuela Fong and Nu‘ulani Atkins and arranged by Randie Kamuela Fong, and the whole class sang Ka Huliau ‘Ana written and arranged by Palani Vaughan. The theme of the contest this year was He Moku, He Kanaka and was inspired by the voyage of the Hokūle‘a.
Fortunately, my class "swept" by winning all of the class awards and tied with the class of 2011 and 2014 for most awards won in one competition.
The Richard Lyman, Jr., ‘Ōlelo Makuahine Award (outstanding use of the Hawaiian language): (TIE)
Winners: Senior Women and Senior Men
George Alanson Andrus Cup (men’s competition):
Winner: Senior Men
New England Mothers’ Cup (women’s competition):
Winner: Senior Women
Helen Desha Beamer Award (outstanding musical performance): (Tie)
Winners: Senior Women and Senior Men
Charles Edward King Cup (combined class competition):
Winner: Senior Class

For Christmas I received the versatile Bare Minerals READY Convertible Eye Palette, which includes 12 shimmer and matte shades. The palette also has a three pan mini-palette in which shadows can be popped in and out to create the perfect mix.
I made my own everyday eye trio out of a matte caramel, shimmery gold, and matte navy. The beige shade is perfect in the crease for a natural look while the gold can be washed all over the lid for a bit of sheen without the grit or glitter. The gold shade is the perfect color for a bit of brightness and can even be used sparingly on the cheekbones for those with olive skintones. I like to use the deep navy as an eyeliner at the root of the lashes or a bit in the crease for added drama. This trio is beautiful for the spring time paired with a glossy nude lip and bronzed skin!

Every year in February or March, my family and I are lucky enough to go to Orchids at Halekulani Hotel for Sunday brunch with some of our friends. Uncle John and Aunty Donna really spoil us by inviting us to the hotel for the most luxurious spread of brunch food. I always look forward to the special Sunday in the beginning of the year because the food is always amazing, the view is to die for, and the memories we make will be treasured forever.

If there's one color I'm loving for the spring time, it's royal blue. This sweater shade specifically tugged at my color heart when I saw it and felt the cloud-like fabric. It layers well and can go over or under pretty much all of my tops. Paired with tight jeans, a beautiful white bag, and sneakers, I'm taking this look over to downtown.
