April Favorites

I hate to always comment on how quickly the months are going by but lately, it's been ridiculous. In less than one month I will be graduating and moving on to the new chapter in my life. I feel like I just started high school and in a few weeks it will all be over! Alas, I digress.

Let's move on to the makeup. I've had a handful of products that really impressed me this month, whether they're new to me or not. The two foundations I've been enjoying are the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops in N30 and the Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation in Light Sand. The CCD are lightweight yet they can be built up to quite a full coverage in one-four drops. I've been loving this to customize my perfect base and have been setting everything with the Tarte foundation for a hint of extra coverage and mattification. It doesn't leave my skin looking cakey and keeps the shine at bay for at least five hours! This is definitely my Spring dream team. Next up is the Bare Minerals Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara in Black for extremely big and bold lashes. I'm usually not a fan of plastic mascara brushes, but I actually enjoy this one. It coats each lash and makes them extra voluminous and black; just what I want from a mascara. To round up my favorites from this month I have two drugstore lip products that are stellar. The Maybelline Color Whisper in Berry Ready is the most beautiful rich wine shade but it's unfortunately not sold anywhere! I purchased this tube a couple years back and have been treasuring it so as not to use up extra product in the case that I can't buy a new one! Last but not least is my favorite Maybelline Baby Lips Dr. Rescue in the shade Soothing Sorbet. This balm is moisturizing without being gloopy and adds just a hint of pink tint and shine. It's the perfect shade for the Spring!

2015 NFL Draft Preview

With the highly anticipated NFL Draft starting tomorrow (ending on Saturday, May 2), the sports fans, athletes, and workers all over the nation are making their bets and hoping for the best for their teams/players of choice. Of course, I'm anxiously waiting to see where my favorite players- Bryce Petty, Levi Norwood, Bryce Hagar, Antwan Goodley, and Spencer Roth are heading in the next step of their football journeys. Petty is projected to land a spot in the late second- early third round with either the Browns, Cowboys, or Bills. His powerful arm and strong body make him the obvious third pick for QB after Winston and Mariota. Although he played in the Baylor spread offense, with a few years of training and conditioning, could do very well in the pro style. The other four Baylor players are expected to go between the fifth and seventh rounds with Norwood and Roth projected to become free agents. The next four days will be intense and exciting with (hopefully) lots of happy moments for my favorite players! Good luck Bryce(x2), Levi, Antwan, and Spencer!

Big Brows and Luminous Skin

Lately, I'm really enjoying a paired-back, minimal makeup look for everyday. Instead of piling on foundation and powder, I'm sticking to my favorite Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer in Ochre for a natural, lightweight coverage. To conceal any blemishes or undereye circles, I of course have my holy grail NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard, which isn't dewy or matte. I've been skipping on the powder to really beef up the glow and have just been applying lashings of the Bare Minerals Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara and filling in my brows with the Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Dark Brunette. I really love a thick, bold brow paired with tons of mascara. On the cheeks I'm keeping it simple with my Chanel Joues Contraste in Rose Petale for a peachy flush and adding a slick of the Lancôme Lip Lover in Rose Contre-Temps.

Shades of Blue

I've been really in to the color blue as of late and this ocean-toned outfit is perfect for a fun spring day. Depending on what the weather is or the day's plans, I would just change up my heels for flats and the shorts for denim jeans. The chambray shirt on top of my favorite JP tee adds a bit of warmth and coverage without making me sweat. These shorts from Forever 21 are another favorite even though I don't shop at that store anymore.

The Last Prom

Kate Spade dress (similar here), Coach bag, Kate Spade bracelet, Nine West heels

I went to my last prom this evening with one of my best friends, Parker. Unlike last year's prom, at which I didn't really have a good time, I actually had quite a bit of fun! Going with a friend always seems like a good idea because you don't have to worry about whether or not your date is having a good time, isn't bored, etc. I purchased this amazing fit and flare dress from Kate Spade, which I'll be able to wear multiple times after prom! I paired it with a black stacked heel, a classic Coach purse, and my favorite Kate Spade bangle.

The Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer

On a recent trip to Sephora, I was making my way to the checkout line when I got caught in the "aisle of doom". If you're a frequent Sephora shopper you will know what I'm talking about. The AOD is the section of travel sized or miniature versions of the store's bestselling products that each shopper must walk through before (s)he gets to the counter. On that visit, I was being good and only picked up a bottle of foundation that I was supposed to buy until I spotted the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer. I've been researching and studying this product for around a year and when I saw the mini version, I popped it right in my Sephora basket.

After a few uses, I have not been very impressed by this "must have". The primer immediately feels oily on the skin (even though it's supposed to suck up oil) and doesn't fill in my pores. Although most beauty bloggers and Sephora insiders consider this to be one of the best primers, I disagree. My skin was even more greasy after 5-6 hours of using this than any other primer I own. It could be that I didn't shake the product enough or I chose a dud bottle but so far, this one is a thumbs down from me.

Spring Dresses

Spring Dresses

Topshop dress / MANGO pink dress / STELLA McCARTNEY pink rose dress / Uniqlo flare dress / Miss Selfridge blue dress / Warehouse floral pattern dress / Lovers Friends summer dress / Sun dress / Chloé sleeveless dress / Philosophy short white dress

When it comes to spring fashion, I'm all about a lightweight, breezy dress. Dresses are amazing because they can be paired with a gorgeous pair of heels for night or neutral flats for the daytime. I'm especially excited about chambray and blue patterned dresses because blue is slowly becoming my new favorite color! I've always loved the shade blush and the two pink hued dresses are some of my must-haves. Thin fabrics, cute prints/details, and nice pair of sunglasses sorts out my spring wardrobe!

Spring Fun

A few weeks ago, my friends and I had a spontaneous trip around the island after practice. We started out at Kailua Beach but it began to rain so we went to Yogurt Mama until the skies cleared up. Unfortunately it was rainy all day long and we spent a couple hours at Windward Mall looking at books, weird masks and candy, and at the pet store. Before we dropped off Mikayla at her house, we went to a park in Kāne‘ohe and played with the Frisbee, bouncy ball, and volleyball that Kai‘olu brought. It was definitely a day well spent (even if it was pouring)!

Homemade Sunday Brunch

This past Sunday I slept in a bit, rolled out of bed and decided to make myself something lovely for brunch. I found a box of Bisquick mix in my refrigerator and cooked up some vanilla and banana pancakes. After I made around 16 of them, (I didn't eat them all I swear!) I topped the cakes with a handful of chocolate chips and sliced strawberries for some sweetness. I also made bacon because I always need meat!

Forever 21 dress (similar here), Jo Malone cologne, Lipstick Queen lipstick, Hawaiian bangle, Daniel Wellington watch, Kate Spade bag (similar here

Instead of taking photos of my outfit of the day, I decided to lay it all out (as fashion bloggers do). My mom found this beautiful mint dress from Forever 21 and although I don't shop there, I fell in love with its print and style! I paired this dress with a sheer coral lipstick from Lipstick Queen and my favorite Peony and Blush Suede perfume from Jo Malone. For accessories, I wore my Daniel Wellington watch and my beloved Hawaiian bracelet along with my fresh white handbag from Kate Spade!

A Clear Improvement

I've never been a huge fan of masks even though they have loads of skin loving ingredients and benefits. However, I picked up the Origins Clear Improvement Mask from Sephora a few weeks ago and it's slowly changing my mind on the skincare product! The charcoal in the mask isn't too thick and dries down to a slightly hard texture without making the skin completely solid. I usually apply this twice a week and leave it on for around two minutes after cleansing. Although my skin isn't perfect and I still get spots here and there, I'm beginning to see a difference in my face's overall appearance. When I feel a blemish coming on, I'll apply a bit of this and see the spot start to decrease within a few hours! It also helps to tone down the oiliness of my skin and gives my face a lovely glow. Time to head to Sephora and pick up a few more masks...

Book Club | April 2015

In March, I picked up Citizen by Claudia Rankine and found my favorite book of all time. Citizen is full of subtle and blatantly obvious racist encounters the author has with those around her. From a neighbor calling the police on Rankine's African-American friend calling him "a crazy person" to a white woman discussing the unfair nature of affirmative action, Rankine shares her experiences written in poetic-prose. Her almost conversational writing style is admirable when reading about her life as an African-American woman in the early 21st century.

In April, I will be making my way through The Best American Poetry while I'm still on a poetic high. I'll be looking for new authors to study and poems that will latch on to my mind and soul.

Brush Strokes

When it comes to spring dressing, I'm a huge fan of lightweight dresses and denim jackets. A timeless denim jacket in an everyday wash can be equally perfect paired with jeans or a flowy skirt. This jacket from Levi's originally belonged to my aunty and when she gave it to me, I fell in love. It's sturdy but doesn't feel restricting or cause excess warmth. This dress from Keds has been shown on TIN before but I couldn't resist writing about it again. It's arguably my favorite dress of all time because of its loose fit, cutout back, and adorable print.

The April Beauty Bundle

April is currently at its peak with the sun shining and pops of color showing up in both my wardrobe and makeup bag. Right now I'm excited about light, flawless skin with a hint of color either on my nails, eyes, or lips. Some of these are old favorites and a couple are new discoveries that I will love throughout the rest of April!

Starting off with skincare, I'll be using the Soap & Glory You Won't Believe Your Eyes, which is a thin eye cream that has an iridescence without any shimmer. It will be the perfect eye cream for the spring time because of its lightweight texture and firming technology. Next is the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness. This is one of the most unique beauty products I've ever tried! It comes in one 'universal' shade (I know, it's a ridiculous claim and it's the product's only downfall) and it is seriously high coverage. I'll be applying thin layers of this to any red patches or blemishes on my face for a hint of coverage without completely masking my face. For a pop of color on my lips, I'll be reaching for the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in the shade Passion. The bright mauve-red is going to be a staple in my makeup bag when I'm sporting natural skin and lots of lashes. Last but not least is my favorite nail color of all time in the form of the OPI Nail Lacquer in Koala Bear-y. Two thin coats of the poppy polish is opaque and high shine.
